The Tiong Bahru Restaurant offers the best of Singaporean cuisine

by: Ayunan G. Gunting

It’s about time Filipino diners experienced a restaurant that features a rich and extensive menu of dishes from Singapore.  Restaurants that serve the cuisines of Thailand, Korea, China, and Vietnam have long been popular in Metro Manila. Yet rarely has there been one that showcases the best from Singapore.

Well, the Tiong Bahru Restaurant is presently fixing that oversight. Its menu consists of the finest and most delicious dishes from the Lion City. The restaurant is named after a community in Singapore where several old and well-preserved buildings still stand.  It imparts a romantic and old-world ambiance that also happens to be a fashionable spot.  Its most famous landmark is the Tiong Bahru Market which houses more than 50 hawker stalls. Foodies who visit the market have been flocking to a stall that‘s simply called the Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken.  The delicious chicken it serves has won acclaim from diners and restaurant reviewers and it went on to win the Michelin Bib Gourmand Award for six consecutive years, from 2017 to 2023.

Today, Filipino foodies can try out this famous dish without having to fly to Singapore. It’s in the menu of the Tiong Bahru restaurants right here in Metro Manila. Founded by Singaporean chefs Ko Kim Hock and Cheong Weng Wah, this restaurant offers the authentic hawker food that’s been so popular at the Tiong Bahru Market. And one doesn’t have to drive far to experience the boneless chicken. The restaurant has eight branches located around Metro Manila.

Diners will be surprised by how reasonable the prices are at Tiong Bahru. Signature dishes such as the Lemon Chicken and Mayonnaise Chicken start t just P295. The Hainanese chicken can be ordered whole or half. Ditto with the Roasted Chicken. Smaller portions are also available for children.

Also on the menu is the Chicken Curry Quarter which could be ordered in Mild or Best form.  And there’s the Roasted Chicken Congee, and also the Curry Chicken Noodle which is available in Mild, Standard, or Super Spicy!

For fans of spicier food, Tiong Bahru offers an array curry dishes, from the Vegetable Curry and Fish Tail Curry to the Fish Head Curry and Chicken Curry Half. They’re all available in Mild, Standard, or Super Spicy.

Unique side dishes and desserts are also available and they all promise to give diners a memorable meal that will make them come back for more.
